This week Mahmoud Abbas’ wife, Amina, secretly had leg surgery in Israel, after it was judged she needed an operation beyond the capability of hospitals in the occupied territories, given the restrictions imposed by … Israel.
We all understand that the Palestinian president wakes up each morning with a US diplomatic knife hovering close to his jugular. We also know that he and his family, along with others in the Palestinian elites, are doing very nicely from the occupation, even as their people descend ever deeper into poverty.
But it is good to be reminded that the Abbas family also owe a personal debt of gratitude to Israel for their health care.
Now, Mr Abbas, back to the liberation struggle – yes?
