If there is an overarching theme in the lives of Palestinians inside Israel, it is one of oppression. It takes many forms: a perverse definition of nationality that degrades non-Jewish citizenship; house demolitions and land theft; intermittent massacres at the hands of the security forces; the denigration and erosion of Palestinian culture; constant surveillance and threat of arrest; and a profound militarisation of Israeli Jewish society that fetishizes violence and perceives the non-Jew to be a mortal enemy.

Amid the persecution and humiliation, however, Palestinians affirm their dignity through resistance and protest.
