These magazines&#8217; content, most of it formally advertising and the rest of it advertising in all but name, has one aim in mind: to\u00a0make women neurotic about their appearance and life choices \u2013 and then offer a way to temporarily and partially alleviate those feelings of inadequacy through compulsive material consumption.<\/p>\n<p>Bad as that is, this video actually\u00a0offers much more than that. It provides a stark look at how all corporate media work &#8211; women&#8217;s magazines are just ordinary, advertising-driven media on speed.<\/p>\n<p>By taking an extreme example, this short film\u00a0also\u00a0sheds light on\u00a0the more subtle but continual\u00a0and cumulative brainwashing we have all been subjected to since childhood. The corporate media&#8217;s goal is to persuade us that the current western model \u2013 of rampant consumption\u00a0at home and resource wars abroad, a model\u00a0that\u00a0has proved\u00a0so profitable for big business\u00a0\u2013 is inevitable and just.<\/p>\n<p>It isn&#8217;t, of course.
