Here is an Israeli Border police officer shaking hands with a Jewish settler who has masked his face with a white sheet. The settlers are heading down to terrorise a group of Palestinian shepherds off their land.<\/p>\n<p>Does the image look familiar? That&#8217;s right: these guys look like Ku Klux Klan members, making nice with the local sheriff in the Deep South as\u00a0they head for a lynching.<\/p>\n<p>The Border Police (a thuggish paramilitary police force that operates on both sides of the &#8220;border&#8221; and makes the Israeli army look disciplined) responded to this photo with typical chutzpah, stating that the policeman was engaging the settler in dialogue: &#8220;Such dialogue, which incorporates both sides without bias, should not be seen as an attempt to take sides.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So even assuming that that&#8217;s what was happening (and not that the policeman is greeting a friend, neighbour, ideological comrade, off-duty police officer etc), why would the Border Police believe he should be neutral between masked vigilantes seeking victims and shepherds minding their own business on their their own land?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/news\/diplomacy-defense\/israeli-security-forces-stand-by-while-settlers-harass-palestinian-shepherds-witnesses-say.premium-1.506949\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow nofollow\">http:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/<wbr \/>news\/diplomacy-defense\/<wbr \/>israeli-security-forces-sta<wbr \/>nd-by-while-settlers-haras<wbr \/>s-palestinian-shepherds-wi<wbr \/>tnesses-say.premium-1.5069<wbr \/>49<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This picture really does speak 1,000 words.
